SUMMARY:  Working interdependently with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, provides a broad range of nurse practitioner services following established policies and protocols.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides services to patients including but not limited to ambulatory care, taking health histories, performing assessments, diagnosis, and conducting health education and counseling.
  • Assesses and manages patients with routine, acute and chronic pain issues. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Develops plans of care based on patient assessment ensuring appropriate follow-up in accordance with established nurse practitioner protocols.
  • Provides teaching and emotional support to patients and families.
  • Refers patients for further care based on severity of illness and symptoms/response to treatments tried.
  • Utilizes written guidelines/protocol for clinical decision making and management.
  • Prepares timely, legible, and complete documentation of all patient care as provided by law, regulation, and established policy
  • Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights.
  • Applies safety principles as identified by established policy.
  • Participates in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current technologies/practices.
  • Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Participates in quality improvement and utilization review activities.
  • Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with office staff, patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current RN and nurse practitioner license and CPR certification.
  • Two to four years Pain experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling emergencies.
  • Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline.
  • Strong charting/documentation skills.
