Neurocritical Care
Altair Health provides world-class care to patients with severe brain and spinal cord illnesses and injuries. Our expert teams work around the clock to monitor each patient and respond to needs quickly. This includes innovative technology to closely observe patient conditions, and a wide range of physician specialists on call to provide consultation and intervention as needed.
Our team includes neurologists who specialize in the intensive care management of patients who have suffered neurological and neurosurgical trauma or had a recent procedure. They help oversee the care of elective and complicated neurosurgical patients. This includes strokes (small and large), ruptured aneurysms, brain and spinal cord injuries, seizures, swelling of the brain, infections of the brain and spine and more.
These specialists – called neurointensivists – are medically trained in diverse fields including neurology, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, internal medicine and neurosurgery. In addition to dealing with critical illness of the nervous system, they treat the related medical complications that may affect the heart, lungs, kidneys and other parts of the body.
Our neurointensivists work closely with our neurosurgeons, neurologists, radiologists, pharmacists, critical care nurses, respiratory and rehabilitation therapists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers – and others, like epilepsy specialists, as needed – to provide the coordinated, intensive care these patients demand.
