Dr. Nicholas Metrus, a neurologist/neuro-oncologist with The Gerald J. Glasser Brain Tumor Center, specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors and central nervous system conditions.
Dr. Metrus is committed to personalized care – including the design and oversight of ever patient’s treatment plan. He works a part of a multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive treatment including chemotherapy, target therapy and immunotherapy.
While earning his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean and completing his residency in neurology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Dr. Metrus focused on cutting-edge research. His work on paraneoplastic disorders, tumefactive multiple sclerosis and clinical trial enrollment has been published. He has also published book chapters on ependymomas and advances in brain tumor clinical trial design.
Dr. Metrus completed his fellowship training in neuro-oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He received the 2018 William James Miller Endowed Fellowship Award, a research grant, for his work in Guillain Barre Syndrome following stem cell transplants. Dr. Metrus also won the award in 2019 for his description of unique presentations of cancer in the brain. His research on hypermutator gliomas has been presented at national and international medical conferences.
