Pinakin R. Jethwa, MD

Clinical Interests

Stroke, brain aneurysms, both the surgical and endovascular management of cerebrovascular disease

Dr. Jethwa is board-certified in neurosurgery and fellowship-trained in both open cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery

Dr. Pinakin R. Jethwa is a native of Wayne, NJ. He completed his undergraduate degree in Bioengineering at The University of Pennsylvania, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He then went on to medical school at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (formerly UMDNJ) in Newark, NJ where he received is Doctorate in Medicine. Dr. Jethwa also completed his neurosurgical residency training at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Dr. Jethwa spent a year of his residency learning advanced endovascular techniques for the treatment of vascular diseases of the brain and spine.

After residency, Dr. Jethwa received advanced fellowship training in both open cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, NJ. During his fellowship he was exposed to cutting edge techniques for the treatment of stroke, brain aneurysms, and vascular malformations of the brain and spine. Dr. Jethwa is one of the few "dual-trained" vascular neurosurgeons in the country, being able to treat disorders of the brain's blood vessels from both the inside or the outside. Some of these advanced techniques include mechanical thrombectomy with stent-retrievers, flow-diverting stents for wide necked aneurysms, and cerebral bypass surgery.

Dr. Jethwa has published extensively on various topics within neurosurgery, including vascular diseases, brain tumors, spine surgery, and cost-effectiveness in neurosurgery. Dr. Jethwa has published in several prestigious journals including the Journal of Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Neurosurgical Focus. He has been an invited lecturer at many national conferences and continues to be active in neurosurgical research.
